Lesia Stuart is Director of Innovation, R&D for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, which has more than 5,000 employees and serves 3.3 million members in the state and across the country.
As Director of Innovation, she is responsible for the daily operations of the Research and Development team. The vision of the Innovation team is to advance BCBST’s analytical capabilities through cutting–edge technologies and to improve operational efficiencies.
Stuart oversees development, implementation and monitoring of organizational strategies that better position BlueCross to improve the health of the population we serve. She is also responsible for initiating greater strategic planning between the company, its customers and business partners.
Prior to her current position, Stuart was responsible for the daily operations of the accreditation team responsible for HEDIS/ CAHPS submissions, supporting quality initiatives, STARS and product development.
Stuart has experience in Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and Medicaid markets. There, she led the clinical management areas which included utilization, case and condition management. Stuart has 20 years of experience leading and directing medical management programs. Prior to joining BlueCross, she was Director of Care Management for Cigna.
Stuart earned a bachelor’s degree in health science administration from St. Francis College and a registered nursing degree from Erlanger School of Nursing. She is a member of the American Association of Managed Care Nurses and the Case Management Society of America. She served on the Case Management Society’s national level as a board member and assisted in developing the Certified Case Manager (CCM) designation.
She is the recipient of a Pioneer Award for her work with the Case Management Society of America. She was awarded the Piece of Mind Pinnacle Award from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee in 2004.
